A Good Day's Work

Saturday was the first of the joint WIM/SOC/SARUM coaching days, hosted by WIM in Ringwood Forest. Despite the rain and the gales of the night before, it was a beautiful sunny morning when we arrived at the area.

Photos and Stars
The group split into yellow/white juniors and orange juniors, with the orange juniors seeming to do quite a lot of running around. In the mean time, the younger ones began with a star exercise, where they ran out to one control at a time, remembered its number and came back to the centre. Next up was a very well prepared photo session, where we learnt what different symbols on the map might look like on the ground and then took part in a more practical version of the Compass Sport photo-o, where everyone was given a photo and they had to go out and find where the photo was taken, and mark it on the map.

Rain and Relay
After a map walk, the two groups came together to run a Harris relay. The juniors were split into two evenly matched teams and at least one person from each team had to visit each of the controls. This was a good fun way to end the day, especially when the chocolate treats came out at the end!

Unfortunately, SARUM have had to move their session in January and so the next joint training will be run by SOC on 3 February 2007. Watch this space for more details!
